The Kiddie Baffin is a super soft, luxuriously warm hat designed to cover the ears for blustery days.
Sizes: small (~3-5 years), medium (~5-8 years), large (~8-13 years). To fit 20”, 21.5”, 23”.
Each size has a lot of flexibility thanks to the ribbing.
Needles:
3 mm circular needles, length depends on preference. Longer needles can be used if using the magic loop method. The entire pattern is constructed using the one needle size.
Yarn:
2 (2, 2) balls Sandnes Garn Double Sunday for main colour
1 ball Sandnes Garn Double Sunday for brim
0.5 balls Lana’s Stop Angora (held double) or wool of similar gauge for i-cord, hat trim, and pompom accents (optional)
Note: I knit some of the brims shown in the photos using Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt, which is a coarser wool, because the hat brim doesn’t make direct contact with the forehead. Because the Double Sunday is much softer, I suggest using this for the hat interior, if not for both the main hat and the hat brim.
I should also mention that I fell in love with Purl Soho’s colourful i-cords! These i-cords are inspired by their beautiful colour choices.
Notions:
8 stitch markers
1 darning needle
1 stitch holder
Note: I recommend using two colours of stitch markers: 1 unique colour for the BOR marker, the rest another colour.
Gauge: In 10 cm2 swatch, 1 x 1 (1k, 1p) ribbing = 32 stitches by 32 rows on 3 mm needles.
